3. El Fanadir Reef – A Hidden Gem for Macro Diving Lovers
El Fanadir Reef is a favorite among seasoned divers and underwater photographers thanks to its rich macro life and peaceful diving conditions. Situated just north of Hurghada, this reef is divided into El Fanadir North and El Fanadir South, each offering unique diving experiences.
El Fanadir North is best known for its deep wall dive, which drops to more than 30 meters. Divers often spot octopuses, scorpionfish, frogfish, and rare nudibranchs. This area is a hotspot for spotting small and unusual species, making it perfect for macro photography and detailed marine observation.
El Fanadir South, on the other hand, is ideal for training dives and beginners due to its shallow sandy bottom and calm currents. However, it still offers plenty to see, including vibrant coral blocks, glassfish, and garden eels. Night dives at El Fanadir are particularly mesmerizing, offering the chance to spot bioluminescent creatures and nocturnal marine animals.
Because El Fanadir is less crowded than other sites like Giftun or Abu Ramada, it’s ideal for those seeking a more tranquil underwater experience. Dive centers in Hurghada regularly include El Fanadir in their itineraries, often as part of a two-dive day trip.
