Visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza Today

Day 1: Discover the Wonders of Giza: Pyramids, Memphis, and Saqqara from Luxor

Your journey begins with our friendly driver/representative collecting you from your hotel in Luxor. You will then be transferred to the airport for your one-hour flight to Cairo. Upon your arrival in Cairo, your expert guide will be waiting for you at the arrival terminal to welcome you. You’ll begin your exciting Cairo tour with the first stop of the day.

Start your exploration with a visit to the Pyramids of Giza, one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. First, marvel at the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest of the three pyramids, standing at over 140 meters tall. This pyramid is a testament to the incredible engineering skills of the ancient Egyptians. Next, visit the Pyramid of Khafre, which appears taller due to its location on higher ground. This pyramid is also famous for the remnants of its limestone casing at the top. Then, head to the Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the three, but still a striking sight. Complete your visit by admiring the Sphinx, the magnificent lion-headed statue that has guarded the pyramids for centuries.

After your visit to the pyramids, you’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Egyptian lunch at a local restaurant in Cairo. Relish popular dishes like koshari (a hearty mix of rice, pasta, lentils, and chickpeas), falafel (deep-fried chickpea balls), and grilled kebabs served with fresh pita bread.

Next, journey to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. At the open-air museum, you’ll see the colossal Statue of Ramses II, one of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs, towering at 10 meters tall. The museum also houses other important artifacts, such as statues and relics from the reign of Ramses II, as well as treasures from the earlier periods of Egyptian history.

After Memphis, head to Saqqara, home to the famous Step Pyramid of Djoser. This monumental pyramid, built by architect Imhotep during the Third Dynasty, is the world’s first large stone structure and marks the beginning of pyramid construction in Egypt. Take time to explore the extensive Saqqara necropolis, where several smaller pyramids and tombs are located, including those of ancient Egyptian officials like Ptahhotep and Ti, known for their beautiful tomb paintings and reliefs.

Evening Transfer to Hotel
After your Saqqara visit, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Cairo to relax and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 2: Explore Cairo’s Rich History: Grand Egyptian Museum, Citadel, and Khan El Khalili Bazaar

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel in Cairo, you’ll begin the second day of your Egypt adventure with a visit to one of the largest and most remarkable museums in the world.

Your day starts with a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located near the Pyramids of Giza. This state-of-the-art museum houses an extraordinary collection of over 120,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts, including the Treasures of Tutankhamun. Marvel at the golden death mask of the boy king, along with other fascinating items such as his jewelry, chariots, and the famous Tutankhamun’s tomb treasures. The museum also features relics from Egypt’s other dynasties, allowing you to immerse yourself in the long and rich history of this ancient civilization.

After touring the GEM, take a break to enjoy a delicious Egyptian lunch at a local restaurant. Relish traditional Egyptian dishes like molokhia (a green soup made from jute leaves), fatta (a dish made with rice, lamb, and crispy bread), and baklava for dessert.

Next, head to the Citadel of Salah al-Din (Cairo Citadel), a historic fortress that has played an essential role in the defense of Cairo throughout the centuries. Built by the famous Sultan Saladin in the 12th century, the Citadel provides panoramic views of Cairo’s skyline. Explore the Muhammad Ali Mosque, a stunning example of Ottoman architecture, and enjoy its grand dome and towering minarets that dominate the Citadel’s hilltop.

Your day ends with a visit to Khan El Khalili Bazaar, Cairo’s famous market that dates back to the 14th century. Wander through the vibrant streets of this bustling souk, filled with stalls selling traditional Egyptian crafts, spices, perfumes, jewelry, textiles, and much more. Don’t forget to stop by one of the many Egyptian coffee houses for a traditional cup of Egyptian coffee or mint tea, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of this historic market.
