On Day 2, you will begin with an early morning transfer to Cairo International Airport for your flight to Luxor, Egypt’s open-air museum. Upon arrival in Luxor, you’ll be greeted by your private guide and driver for the day’s exploration.
The first stop is the Karnak Temple Complex, one of the largest religious complexes in the world, dedicated to the god Amun-Ra. Explore the awe-inspiring Hypostyle Hall with its towering columns, and view other notable monuments, such as the Sacred Lake and the Obelisk of Hatshepsut. Your guide will walk you through the rich history of the temple and explain the significance of its many structures.
Next, you’ll visit Luxor Temple, which is located on the banks of the Nile River. This temple was dedicated to Amun-Ra and is famous for its Avenue of Sphinxes that once connected it to Karnak Temple. Admire the well-preserved reliefs, statues, and obelisks that decorate the temple and learn about its role in ancient Egyptian rituals.
After visiting the temples, enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant in Luxor, offering views of the Nile River and a perfect opportunity to unwind. You can try a variety of Egyptian dishes, such as grilled meats, stuffed grape leaves, and basbousa (a sweet semolina cake).
In the afternoon, cross the Nile to Luxor’s West Bank to visit the famous Valley of the Kings, where many of Egypt’s New Kingdom pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, were buried. Explore several tombs, each decorated with intricate paintings that depict scenes of the pharaohs’ journey into the afterlife.
Next, visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, a unique mortuary temple built into the cliffs of the Theban Mountains. The temple’s stunning terraces are one of the most impressive architectural feats in Egypt.
Finally, visit the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, which have stood for over 3,000 years, and learn about the legends associated with their eerie sounds.
After a full day of exploration, you will be transferred back to El Quseir by private car, reflecting on the incredible historical sites you’ve visited in both Cairo and Luxor.
