Your first stop is the magnificent Karnak Temple, one of the largest religious complexes in the world, and undoubtedly the most significant in ancient Egypt. This temple was dedicated primarily to the god Amun, but also to his consort Mut and their son Khonsu. As you explore the expansive grounds, you’ll encounter the awe-inspiring Hypostyle Hall, a vast hall filled with 134 massive columns that create a forest of stone, each intricately carved with scenes of kingship, religious rituals, and divine power. You’ll also have the chance to admire the towering pylons, imposing obelisk, and other smaller temples within the Karnak complex that offer insight into Egypt’s religious practices and the annual Opet Festival, in which the Pharaohs would reaffirm their divine right to rule.
